US congresswomen seek talks with Iran female lawmakers
United States congresswomen have reportedly put forward a request to hold a meeting with members of Iran's Majlis (parliament). "US congresswomen have requested a meeting with female members of Iran's Majlis," a member of the Parliament's National Security Commission, Hossein Taqavi, told Fars News Agency on Wednesday. If held, this would be the first meeting between a group of Washington and Tehran officials on US-Iran relations after the two countries severed ties in 1979.

Tehran Frees Iranian-American Student on Bail
The family of an Iranian-American student detained in Iran says the young woman has been freed on bail. Relatives say Esha Momeni was released from prison Monday, after spending nearly a month in Tehran's Evin Prison on charges of acting against national security. She is scheduled to appear in court this week. Relatives say they put up the deed to the family's house to cover Momeni's $200,000 bail.

Iran father pleads for mercy for detained daughter
The father of Iranian-US student Esha Momeni, in detention in Tehran facing security charges, said Friday he disapproved of his daughter's "illegal activities" but pleaded with the authorities to show mercy. "I had no idea about the activities of my daughter but now I have realised that her work was illegal," Gholam Reza Momeni was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency. "Because of our anger over our daughter's illegal activities... her mother and I did not want to visit her," Momeni said.

Iranian poetess, Saffarzadeh dies at 72
Celebrated Iranian poetess and translator Tahereh Saffarzadeh has died at the age of 72 after a long-time battle with brain disease. The renowned scholar, who underwent a brain surgery last year, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 in Tehran. Saffarzadeh graduated in English literature from Tehran University and pursued her studies in contemporary world literature in the US.

Concern for US woman held in Iran
There is growing concern about the fate of an Iranian-American student who has been detained in Iran. Esha Momeni, who is from Los Angeles, was doing research into the status of women in Iran when she was arrested on 15 October. According to her lawyer, Ms Momeni, 28, was pulled over for a traffic offence in the capital, Tehran. She is now being held in the notorious Evin prison near Tehran, which houses a number of political activists. The authorities have not said why she is being held, though it may be related to the "One Million Signatures Campaign", in which women in Iran are pressing for more rights.

US seeks Swiss help on student held in Tehran: State Dept.
The United States is asking Switzerland, which represents US interests in Tehran, to find out more about an Iranian-American student reportedly held since October 15 in Tehran, the State Department said Friday. Iranian news media Tuesday reported the arrest of Esha Momeni, a university student in California who traveled to Iran two months ago to visit family and carry out research. "My understanding is that she's a dual national," State Department spokesman Robert Wood told reporters in Washington.

Iranian women’s rights advocate "Esha Momeni" arrested
Esha Momeni, women’s rights advocate and a member of the Campaign from California was arrested on Wednesday October 15, 2008, while on a visit to Tehran. Momeni who is a photographer and graduate student was arrested in an unusual and illegal manner after being pulled over on Moddaress highway, by individuals who identified themselves as under cover traffic police on the pretense that she had unlawfully passed another vehicle while driving. Esha was arrested and taken to Section 209 of Evin Prison, managed by the Intelligence and Security Ministry.

Iran: Headscarves as civil disobedience
By law in Iran, women are required to wear the hijab - a covering of the head that is intended to promote modesty. But the dress requirements are not popular with everyone, and some women choose to bend or break the rules to display their opposition to the government...."I always wear a black chador. It's my personal decision and preference to wear black chador. Considering the current social situation of Iran, it's better to have a kind of tighter hijab than what it said in Islam. I feel more secure by wearing chador in society."

Lack of News about "female human rights activists" in Iran
According to news received from Sanandaj Prison there has been no news about Ms. Hana Abdi and Ms. Ronak Safarzadeh's health and well being in the past seven (7) days. Due to the lack of news from these two women's rights activists their families had gone to the Sanandaj Prison on Saturday October 4th in order to get news regarding their health and well being, however they were informed that the prison officials had decided to cut all contact between these two activists and their families for 3 weeks. There has been no explanation about the reason behind this situation.

Women's car in Iran?
The car will be painted in soft "feminine" colours and include interior design features aimed specifically at women. Alarms will be fitted to warn of flat tyres and there will be an automatic gear box, a navigation system and audiovisual entertainment systems for child passengers. The car, part of the Samand range, comes in response to the growing number of female drivers in Iran. According to manufactures Iran Khodro, it has been designed following consultation with female car owners and will be made to order when it is launched in conjunction with national womens' day next June.

Iran regime arrests "Iranian human rights activist"
Ms. Negin Shaykh Alaslami who is a human rights activist, a journalist, former president of Cultural Association of Women of Azarmehr Kurdisatan, as well as a women's rights activist and a member of One million signature campaign was arrested by the Security Forces on Sunday October 5th 2008 and taken to an unknown location. Ms. Shaykh Alaslami has worked hard towards equality for women and is a well known women's rights activist in Kurdistan of Iran.
