Poland honors Iran's Mohsen Makhmalbaf
The 2008 International Etiuda & Anima Festival has honored the internationally-acclaimed Iranian director, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, in Poland. The festival presented its Special Golden Dinosaur award to Makhmalbaf for the outstanding combination of creativity and educational elements in his works.
The festival will also screen films by the Makhmalbaf family, including Hana Makhmalbaf's Buddha collapsed out of shame, Samira Makhmalbaf's Apple, Blackboard and Two-legged Horse and Mohsen Mahmalbaf's Gabbeh and Kandahar.

Tehran's 25th short filmfest kicks off
The 25th Tehran International Short Film Festival has kicked off, featuring a variety of productions from Iran and other world countries.
The festival has chosen some 366 short films from among 3,600 productions from Iran and 95 other countries.
Fiction, documentary, animation and experimental Iranian films will be screened in the event's National competition section, which includes the categories of Prophetic Heritage, and Panoramas of our Beautiful Homeland.

Iranian short films at Jordan Film Festival
Three Iranian movies are slated to participate in the International Film Competition section of the 2008 Jordan Short Film Festival.
Poopak Mozaffari's, 23rd (fiction), Mehrdad Sheikhan's Solitude (animation) and Omid Khoshnazar's Zero Degree (animation) will compete with films from Belgium, France, Spain, Australia, the UK, Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, India, the US and Sweden.
Iranian short films have participated and received awards from numerous international festivals, garnering the admiration of audiences and critics.

US filmfest to honor Iran's Majid Majidi
The 2008 Starz Denver Film Festival is to pay tribute to the acclaimed Iranian director Majid Majidi and screen two of his movies. Majidi will attend the screenings of his award-winning films, Song of Sparrows and Children of Heaven at the festival.
The 89-minute Children of Heaven was nominated for the 1998 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the 96-minute Song of Sparrows will represent Iran at the 81st Oscar Awards.
Born in 1959, Majid Majidi started his cinematic activities with acting and appeared in numerous films, including Mohsen Makhmalbaf's 1985 Boycott.

Italian festival to screen Iranian films
Manijeh Hekmat's Three Women will participate in the event's Official Competition section, while That Man Arrived by Seifollah Yazdani and Ya'qoub Akbarian will be screened in the Short Film International Competition section.
Hamid Navim's 9-minute animation, Question Mark, will participate in the Panorama Corti section and Mehrdad Oskouei's It's Always Late for Freedom will be screened in the Documentary International Competition section.

Iran to make "Kiarostami" documentary
Iranian filmmaker Hamideh Sharifrad is producing a documentary on the works of the acclaimed director and artist, Abbas Kiarostami. The documentary includes interviews with cast and crews, who have worked with Kiarostami, including Bahman Qobadi, Hossein Yektapanah, Mohammad-Ali Keshavarz and Farhad Saba.
The film also contains interviews with a number of Iranian cinematographers and film critics as well as Kiarostami's colleagues.

Carthage filmfest to screen three Iranian films
Three Iranian films are slated to be screened at the 22nd edition of the international Carthage Film Festival in the Tunisian Republic. Asghar Farhadi's Fireworks Wednesday and Majid Majidi's Song of Sparrows will participate in the event's World Cinema section.
Mania Akbari's 10+4, the sequel to Abbas Kiarostami's '10', will be screened in the festival's Special sessions section. The 77-minute film has received the Viewer's Choice award at the 2008 International 3 Continents Festival in Nantes, France.

Kiarostami films to be screened in France
France is scheduled to screen short and feature-length films by award-winning Iranian director and acclaimed artist, Abbas Kiarostami. Bread and the Alley (1970), Breaktime (1972) and Experience (1973), all among Kiarostami's early productions, will be screened in Paris and other French cities.
The filmmaker's first production, Bread and the Alley, is about a schoolboy and an aggressive dog. Breaktime is a short film with no dialogue, which depicts the hidden feelings of a schoolboy who has been punished for breaking a window.

IRAN: 'Body of Lies' hot in Tehran, causes headache for actress
The Ridley Scott action-spy flick "Body of Lies" just hit the silver screen in the United States. But on the streets of Tehran, the Iranian capital, the movie is already selling wildly as a boot-legged DVD, and it's not just because women want to swoon over stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Russel Crowe.
Golshifteh Farahani, Iran's red-hot young actress du jour, plays the love interest in the movie, as Aisha, a Jordanian nurse who is the object of the attentions of an American spy, played by DiCaprio.

The Birthday
The Birthday documents a young man's transition into womanhood in a country where women are generally oppressed. And while Iran has gained notoriety for offering gender-reassignment surgery since the Quran makes no mention of it being forbidden, The Birthday sheds light on the great depth of uncertainty that accompanies the procedure in the country. Directors Negin Kianfar and Daisy Mohr illustrate that uncertainty by showing Mahtab speak to her doctor weeks before the surgery. He warns her to be prepared for the worst.

Leonardo DiCaprio's love interest in new flick fears exile from Iran
Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani, who plays Leonardo DiCaprio’s love interest in ‘Body of Lies,’ fears exile from her homeland. The 25-year-old actress, is one of Iran’s biggest stars, and has now become the first Iranian-based actress to appear in a Hollywood film since the 1979 Islamic revolution. However, the gorgeous actress may face court trial for breaking law after making the film without permission.
“I had a lot of problems because of this movie [Iranian officials] took my passport. The intelligence service interrogated me several times. In the end, the judge said, ‘We have to see the movie and then decide what we’re going to do with you,’” The New York Daily News quoted the actress, as saying.

Oskuii to shoot sequel to "A Taste of Iran" for BBC
Mehrdad Oskuii is to shoot the sequel to “A Taste of Iran” in late November for the BBC World news channel. He will begin the second part of his documentary in the southern region of Iran. The first part was shot in Gilan Province in northern Iran.
“The documentary features the relationships between Iranians’ diet and their activities in art, culture, music and sports arenas. This film depicts other aspect of Iran besides its nature, its people, its different dishes and its historical characters,” Oskuii said.
